Charles A. Lain

Charles A. Lain married Rose. They had two children, Ralph C. Lain born in March 1882 and Bessie M. Lain born in September 1889. In 1900 he was a dry goods and grocery merchant and he had a servant living in his household. In 1910, he was a retail owner of a general store and employer in Mt. Pleasant Township in the city of Altamont, Labette, Kansas. He was enumerated in the household next to Matilda A. and Flossie G. Hamilton. It is likely that this is the same general store in which Flossie was the bookeeper. Flossie married Charles’ nephew Fred Pepperdine the following year.
